Securing SATCOM Amid Rising Demands and Threats
I recently had the opportunity to contribute to the SATCOM security standards and guidance for ISC2.
The guide offers practical cybersecurity guidance for professionals evaluating privatized satellite-based communications (SATCOM) risks and use cases. As SATCOM becomes more accessible due to reduced launch costs and increased private sector participation—exemplified by projects like Starlink and Amazon's Project Kuiper—the attack surface for both remote connectivity and emergency usage has grown. The guide, developed with input from 31 subject matter experts, details key challenges such as centralized control and geopolitical risks, signal interception and privacy threats, and hardware supply chain dependencies. Aimed at supporting midsize organizations, it outlines relevant regulations, real-world attack lessons, and best practices for mitigating SATCOM security risks in an evolving landscape.
Here's the recognition badge I've erned for this contribution.
